Timeline: After losing her hair in her Penalty Game.
Personality:
Minatsuki is nothing short of deceptive. On the surface she appears to be a sweet, innocent and gentle girl who wouldn't harm even a fly. Her mannerisms are gentle and she speaks somewhat quietly. She represents herself as a girl who wouldn't be any danger around and the sort of person that people would risk their lives to protect.
Scratch a little deeper down and the real Minatsuki appears. She is an incredibly gifted actress can switch between her sugary sweet personality and her true personality at the drop of a hat. Her acting ability is so great that Ganta, the protagonist of Deadman Wonderland, sincerely believes that she is as sweet as she makes herself out to be. During her Carnival Corpse she reveals her true personality to him, but reverts back to being sweet and innocent when her brother appears. It's a prime example of never judging a person by their cover.
The other side to Minatsuki is that she is a very twisted individual. She is cruel and sadistic to her very core and finds sexual pleasure in hurting those around her. Minatsuki revels in the suffering she causes others and states that everything around her is worthless (unless she can get off to it of course). Her language is so coarse and vulgar that both the anime and the manga see fit to censor it at times. The extreme sadism that she shows appears to be just a front and that the real Minatsuki is somewhere between this extreme sadism and the gentle, sugary sweetness she uses to deceive people.
Minatsuki's deceit does have an underlying reason under it. When the Great Tokyo earthquake shook the city to its core her mother chose to save her flowers instead of her own daughter. This has left Minatsuki with an inability to trust those around her and so she lies and deceives because humans are untrustworthy. If she can't trust her own mother then who can she trust?
Ganta eventually wins their Carnival Corpse by telling Minatsuki that because she's afraid of trusting those around her, she's only hurting herself. After the fight Ganta works hard to prove his trustworthiness to Minatsuki which causes her to open up a little. She no longer uses the sweet, innocent personality around others so much unless it is truly for her gain and starts softening and learning to trust others. She still lashes out and finds pleasure from hurting others.
Despite being 17 it seems as though the real Minatsuki is still emerging and that she's discovering who exactly she is.

Growing up in Tokyo with her mother, father and older brother, Yoh, Minatsuki should have had a rather pleasant childhood and grown up to be relatively normal. However, fate has a funny way of messing with people and sending them down the wrong path.
When the Great Tokyo Earthquake struck she was with her mother, tending to the plants they looked after. Instead of helping to save her only daughter her mother decided to save her plants, leaving the very young Minatsuki behind. This act of betrayal alone caused her to start to become distrustful of others and caused her to change. During the earthquake Minatsuki became infected with a Red Diamond which caused her to gain her Branch of Sin; Whip Wing. She kept this a secret from her father and brother.
With her new, twisted personality in place Minatsuki began to manipulate Yoh into believing that their father was abusing her. He wasn't, but Yoh didn't know any different. One day Minatsuki faked a sexual assault which caused Yoh to lash out at their father. During this Minatsuki used her Whip Wing to kill her father and was sent to Deadman Wonderland. During this time she allowed Yoh to believe that his father's death was his fault.
Deadman Wonderland is a prison which is built up like a theme park. Civilians can visit the prison and watch as the prisoners compete in games (which often results in their deaths). In addition all prisoners wear collars; these collars slowly poison its wearer and eventually kill them if the prisoner doesn't consume the antidote in time. The antidote is won through the various games.
Luckily for Minatsuki, she didn't compete in these games. Due to her Branch of Sin she was labelled a 'Deadmen' and spent her time in Deadman Wonderland in Sector G, a hidden sector. The inhabitants of this sector all needed to compete in various games called Carnival Corpse which were a death match between the Deadmen. Should the loser survivor they lose part of themselves; Minatsuki lost part of her stomach and one of her kidneys from previous matches.
When Ganta arrives at Sector G Minatsuki keeps her sweet and innocent façade. She greets Ganta and watches Senji's Penalty Game. After Ganta stops Masu from eating her flowers, Minatsuki takes him back to her room and begins to manipulate him. She shows him the scars which she has on her back and claims that her father abused her and claims that she doesn't want to use her Branch of Sin to hurt anyone. This effectively earns her Ganta's trust and he tries to escape with her. This fails and they learn that they are paired up against each other in the next Carnival Corpse.
Minatsuki appears reluctant to fight against Ganta but soon drops her innocent façade. She attacks him and reveals her true personality but when Yoh intervenes she goes back to her innocent, sweet self. When Yoh reveals he know what happened between her and their father she doesn't hesitate to use him as a shield. Eventually the Carnival Corpse is won by Ganta who wins against Minatsuki by confusing her and then head butting her,
She's taken to medical care after this and due to an earthquake her bed rolls towards a closet. This gives her flashbacks of the Great Tokyo Earthquake and the closet would have crushed her if Yoh hadn't intervened and taken the full blow. Minatsuki insults Yoh after he claims he's okay because she knows that he's lying. She pulls the glass shards from his wounds and he asks if she needs help showering due to her injuries; this causes her to kick him out of the room.
It's time for Minatsuki to face her Penalty Game, which she does so albeit nervously. She's relieved to learn that she'll only be losing some of her hair instead of another body part and bitterly complains that the change in her behaviour is due to Ganta and Yoh.
Abilities/Additional Notes:
As one of the Deadmen, Minatsuki's main ability is her Branch of Sin which is known as Whip Wing. In order to utilise it she rips her earrings out which causes her ears to bleed. Combining the blood with her hair forms whips which she can use with ease very quickly. In addition these whips can extend for various feet.
This power isn't without limits. As it requires free flowing blood to be used it makes her susceptible to anaemia if used for too long.
Minatsuki is a fantastic actress. She can swap from being a homicidal psychopath to a whimpering little girl within a matter of seconds. Many people have fallen for the façade she plays with and they only discover the real truth once she chooses to allow them to see.

Her hands reached up to her neck, delicately fondling the collar on her neck. It was a reminder of home. A reminder of that wretched prison she'd spent her teenage years growing up in. Ugh, hopefully this thing wasn't still doing that whole poison thing. She had enough candy on her to get by in the meantime but the first thing she'd need done is to get this off as soon as possible.
Hopefully the people here would be as stupid just as they were back home she couldn't help but think whilst kicking a stray piece of rubble. Lots of perverts were easily tricked by a pretty face and they never could resist the damsel in distress look she so often played. People were just too easy to trick and who could ever suspect such a pathetic girl?
